Let’s talk about employment discrimination
In the latest podcast episode we chat with Bedi Othow, co-founder of DivTal, an online jobs platform that helps under represented minority groups find work in Australia.
Bedi and her family migrated to Australia in 1998 after feeling civil war in South Sudan. After graduating from Swinburne University in Melbourne, she spent over a year trying to find a job.
It was only when she joined an inclusion program for African-Australians that she realised there was a discrimination problem. It was this experience that fuelled her mission to help other migrants by launching a jobs platform with her co-founder Lorna Deng.
We discuss
- Employment bias and discrimination
- Launching a business during COVID
- Resilience in the workplace
- The unique skills of migrants
- The importance of soft skills in the workplace
- How to advocate for under represented minority groups
- CV tips and interview techniques for migrants
- How employers can be more inclusive
